Before You Dig: Please Protect Windsor Square’s Irrigation Lines

As more homes in Windsor Square undergo construction, landscaping, pool work, additions, and other projects, we are seeing increased damage to the District’s irrigation infrastructure.

The checklist below offers general guidance for anyone planning excavation or other construction, including homeowners, contractors, and construction crews.

An 811 request (formerly Blue Stake) will not identify irrigation infrastructure. Before beginning an outdoor project, please take appropriate steps to determine whether District infrastructure is located in your work area and contact the District secretary, at iwdd27@gmail.com, if you have questions or concerns.

A damaged irrigation line can interrupt service to the neighborhood and potentially cause significant water damage, so we ask everyone to take the precautions listed below. Share this information with your contractors and anyone else performing excavation or construction on your property.

  • Plan. Several days before breaking ground, contact 811 to request that they mark any known gas, electrical, water, sewer, telecommunications or utility lines.
  • Inspect your proposed work location for indications of underground irrigation lines. Download the map of the irrigation system that is on the WS website, at https://windsorsquarephoenix.com/Irrigation-Map. It is not 100% accurate, but it provides a good overall picture of the system.
  • Contact the District about getting a representative from Farsight Construction to provide a more detailed inspection. Farsight is the company the District uses for maintenance & repair of the infrastructure.
  • Be on site when underground facilities are being located. Ask questions regarding markings/flags or how to safely dig.
  • Review safety procedures. Ensure that anyone working on your project is aware of risks associated with digging near underground lines. Besides digging, heavy loads — such as block walls and the construction of outlying buildings or placement of building materials — also pose threats to the irrigation infrastructure.
  • Notify the District or your project supervisor if you damage, scrape, crack or dent a pipe. Call 911 if you suspect damage or leaking.
